Unjamming an Expert laminator (aka a 'Card Test')

Customer Care | Expert, Laminating Problems, How to Guides
1mm Grey Board in EX320R Laminator

Have you tried to reverse out the jam prior to starting the ‘Card Test’?

  • If this has cleared the jam, proceed to use the laminator as normal
  • If this has not removed the jam, please proceed to perform a card test.

The ‘card test’ is best performed as soon as the jam occurs, by doing so the lamination plastic will be soft and more likely to be removed.

If the jam has just occurred complete the following steps:

  • 1) Find a piece of 1mm grey card (similar to the back of an A4 pad), do not use anything shiny
  • 2) Keep the laminator at operating temperature.
  • 3) Feed the card into the machine along its long edge. If the card starts to jam, reverse it out

If the laminator has been switched off since the jam, complete the following steps:

  • 1) Find a piece of 1mm grey card (similar to the back of an A4 pad), do not use anything shiny
  • 2) Turn on the machine and heat it up to approximately 100º
  • 3) Feed the card into the machine along its long edge. If the card starts to jam, reverse it out

If you manage to clear the jam, it may help, to run the card through 2 or 3 times to remove any residue from the rollers. By performing a successful ‘Card Test’ you may eliminate the need to send the machine back to our workshop, thus saving you downtime.
